Avanti! Chamber Orchestra
Friction, Fetters, Fractures
Avanti! returns to the Tampere Biennale after a hiatus of 20 years! The concert opens with the unbridled energy of a young Magnus Lindberg and the premiere of a solo trumpet work by the brilliantly talented Marcus Hu. Noirs by Sophia Chambon is, as one might expect, an exploration of the colour black, and Friction by the festival’s international composer guest Agata Zubel also delivers exactly what the title says.
The programme culminates in Ballast by Ville Aslak Raasakka, which addresses the state of the Baltic Sea from the ecological and geopolitical perspectives. The prerecorded material is from the underwater sonography of the Finnish Environment Institute. The massive sounds of ships at sea are combined with cello, thrust into rumbling depths with electronic processing.
